How CBD Affects The Physiology Of The Body?

CBD is an acronym for Cannabidiol, which is a compound present in the cannabis plant. It has gained immense popularity due to its effects on many diseases. Considering all the hype surrounding CBD, it gets very important to know how it affects the physiology of our body.

Our body has its system for creating its cannabinoids called an Endocannabinoid system (ECS). ECS is involved in many physiologic processes such as in the regulation of pain, mood, immune system, and metabolism. Cannabinoid receptors are found in the whole body, and till now, we have succeeded in identifying two endocannabinoid receptors – CB1 receptors found in the brain and CB2 receptors found in the immune system and bone marrow cells.

When the receptors get activated, they produce an anti-inflammatory, immune response. CBD does not bind with such receptors directly; in fact; it influences the ECS by inhibiting the enzyme FAAH which breaks down the anandamide – another endocannabinoid. The process increases the level of anandamide in the brain. High level of anandamide reduces the rapid formation of the cancer cells, helps in depression and anxiety disorders.

Considering the evidence that suggests the benefits of anandamide on the body, one can use CBD for health gains. However, consulting a physician is imperative before starting your CBD dose.
